Originally from Ithaca, NY, Eva stayed in her hometown to complete her undergraduate degree in Chemistry at Cornell University and performed research on the targeted delivery of reactive oxygen and aldehyde species in biological systems in the lab of Professor Yimon Aye. After graduating, she moved to Princeton, NJ to pursue her Ph.D. in Chemistry at Princeton University in the lab of Professor Tom Muir. For her doctoral studies, she used peptide and protein chemistry tools to develop “designer” chromatin substrates for mechanistic studies of the chromatin-modifying complex PRC2. In 2019, Eva began her postdoctoral studies at University of California Berkeley in the lab of Professor Chris Chang. There, she combined chemoproteomic, biochemical, and cellular techniques to study copper-binding proteins. In fall 2023, Eva joined the Department of Chemistry as an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at University of North Carolina Charlotte.

Morgan Hunter is from Irmo, South Carolina, near Columbia. She earned her B.S. in Chemistry with a concentration in Biochemistry from Winthrop University in May 2024. As an undergraduate, she worked in the lab of Dr. Timea Fernandez, where she explored strategies for overcoming antibiotic resistance using gold and silver nanoparticles designed to deliver antibiotics into bacterial cells through a Trojan-horse approach. After graduation, Morgan completed a post-baccalaureate research program at the University of South Carolina in Dr. Caryn Outten’s lab, where she investigated how cells regulate iron levels and respond to oxidative stress using yeast and fungal model organisms.

Morgan began her Ph.D. in Chemistry and Nanoscale Science at UNC Charlotte in 2025, joining Dr. Eva Ge’s lab the same year.

Phil grew up near Charlotte, NC and completed his B.A. in Biology and minor in Chemistry at UNC Charlotte. Prior to his undergraduate studies, he spent time working in the food industry, including on a small-acreage produce and livestock farm. His experience in agriculture introduced him to biological concepts like pesticide resistance, bioremediation, and nitrogen fixation, sparking his interest in biology and biochemistry. During his undergraduate degree, he worked as an EMT in Mecklenburg County, as well as a Peer-Assisted Learning tutor, leading group study sessions in Organic Chemistry. He will begin his Ph.D. in Chemistry and Nanoscale Science at UNC Charlotte in Fall 2026

Prior to joining the Ge group, Sudha has over eight years of industry experience as a Research and Development Organic Chemist with expertise in the multi-step synthesis, purification, and characterization (including MS, NMR, HPLC, and IR) of organic molecules.  She is the wife of Subrahmanyam Yeleswarapu, a software professional, and mother to their son “Pranav” (an 8th Grade middle schooler) and daughter “Sasisekhari” (a 3rd grader). In her free time, Sudha enjoys cooking and trying a variety of vegetarian cuisines and spending time listening to music.   

Colin was born in Manchester, Connecticut, raised in Mooresville NC. He is currently attending UNC Charlotte as a B.S. Biology Major with a Chemistry Minor. Post-college, Colin is planning to continue his education by pursuing either a Master’s or a Ph.D. 

Andrew was born in Peoria, Illinois and spent much of his life there before moving to Greensboro, NC. He is currently attending UNCC as a second degree undergraduate student and is pursuing a BA in chemistry and a minor in biology. After graduation, he is planning on attending medical school.

Kashiah was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. She is currently attending the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a concentration in Biochemistry and a minor in dance. After graduation, she plans to attend graduate school to study cosmetic chemistry and pursue a career as a formulation technician for a reputable skincare company. 

Evan was born and raised in Matthews, NC. He initially completed a B.S. in Business Administration at UNC Wilmington and is currently attending UNC Charlotte as a second-degree student, pursuing a B.S. in Chemistry with a concentration in Biochemistry and a minor in Biology. After graduation, he plans to enter the M.S. in Chemistry program at Charlotte and eventually pursue a PhD in Neuroscience or Pharmacology.

Charlie was born and raised in Winston-Salem, NC. He is currently pursuing a B.S. in Chemistry at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. After graduation, he plans to continue his education and earn a masters degree. Eventually he would like to start a career in pharmaceutical R&D. 

Kielee was born in Port Huron, Michigan, moved frequently throughout her life, then settled in Cameron, North Carolina. She is currently attending UNC Charlotte as an undergraduate student and is pursuing a B.S. in Chemistry with a minor in Biology. After graduation, she plans on pursuing a degree in higher education and eventually starting a career in optometry.
